ProTerra認証は、Non-GMOとして独自に認証され、最高の持続可能性基準に従って生産された高品質の作物、食品、飼料が世界市場で入手できることを保証するものである。

欧州の組織は、環境と天然資源に広く焦点を当てた10の原則への遵守を実証することで、ProTerra認証を取得します。その原則には、労働者の権利や地域社会との関係、気候変動、適正な農業慣行、遺伝子組み換え生物（GMO）の不使用、およびサプライチェーン全体のトレーサビリティなどが含まれます。認証には、組織の種類や認証対象となる製品の種類に応じて、3つのレベルがあります。

3段階のProTerra認定：

• レベルI：農業生産-作物や種子の生育。認証単位には、非耕作地を含む農場全体と、認証時に現場で進行中のすべての活動が含まれる。
• レベルⅡ：輸送、保管、トレーダー、ディーラー - ProTerraのNon-GMOおよびトレーサビリティ／CoCの原則に照らして監査される、CoCの経済的運営者としてのみ活動する組織。
• レベルIII：工業加工-破砕工場や食品製造業者など、農業生産物を加工するあらゆる作業。 

ProTerra認証の影響を受けるセクターには、農業、花卉園芸、製造業、小売業、サービス業などがある。認証は、バナナ、生ココナッツ、花卉、サトウキビ、トウモロコシ／メイズ、米、ヒマワリ、菜種、果物、ナッツ、パーム油、大豆、スパイス、茶、野菜などの農産物や、ケータリング、穀物、食品・飲料、運輸、卸売・小売業などのサービス業など、幅広い分野に適用できる。
